What foods would you like to make?
I would like to perfect a South Indian breakfast. Having written about favourite foods before, I won’t elaborate. Simply to say it’s divine. Maybe I should learn to master a pressure cooker?

For the majority of the years I lived and worked in India there was a cook in the house. How lucky was I to have my breakfast presented each morning, in such a manner. A daily feast. Amazing!
Often I would drop into the kitchen to see what was going on. It was always such a hive of activity. Pans rattling, wonderful aromas, huge piles of palak ( spinach) and bunches of fresh corriander…local chit chat and a Tamil film score in the background….. wow
I moved to London in ’79 as a nanny to a lovely Asian boy. They were vegetarian, and I learned so much from mum and dadaji. Chapatis and puri. Cooking with paneer and lentils. Living in south London i have met people who are more than willing to share their skills and recipes. Semolina sweets, veg curries, spices and gee. Its a great skill to have isn’t it?

Hi Pat That was quite something for a young girl to do. Brave and exciting! Well done you for getting out into the world like that! Food/meals and the prep of is a big deal, you were fortunate to be taken under their wing and learn so much x

I was just 19. It was an odd family! Dad was a civil servant who felt he had a right to ask me to entertain him if I was ever bored! Yes – you read that right. I stayed there 9 months. Shudder.
