Two people and a gate

Name your top three pet peeves.

You pull out onto a main. There is nothing behind you-and then there is. You can see them in your rear view mirror haring up the road, and they don’t slow down until they are right up your ..bumper. What’s that about?

You are walking down the street or in a supermarket, and there they are, holding a super-loud conversation, like they’re the only person in the world.

It’s late at night. You’re all warm and cosy in bed. There’s a storm brewing outside, but that’s okay. You’re toasty where you are. And then it happens, someone hasn’t secured a gate or a garden shed door, and it bangs, and you wait, and it bangs again, and again and again.

A few words from John Donne

Who are your current most favorite people?

No man is an island,

Entire of itself;

Every man is a piece of the continent,

A part of the main.

If a clod is washed away by sea,

Europe is the less,

As if a promontory were:

As well as if a manor of thy friend’s

Or of thine own were.

Any man’s death diminishes me,

Because I am involved in mankind.

And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;

It tolls for thee.

No Man is an Island by John Donne 1572~1631

What are your favorite animals?

If I get any inkling at all that an animal in a movie is going to come to harm, I’ll turn it off. Wildlife programmes? Forget it! Something horrible always happens.

So yes, despite being an animal lover, I really don’t want to see them on screen. I’d rather watch something about serial killers.

WP today asks about favourites. Well, dogs are obvs, but my heart melts for them all. Brown Bears, donkeys, squirrels, sheep, horses, cats, you name it.

My love holds no bounds for animals.

Life’s a beach-and then

Beach or mountains? Which do you prefer? Why?

There is no getting away from the fact that mountains are majestic, and the views from the top supreme, but sea-level suits me just fine. Thanks all the same.

Having said that since the Tsunami of 2004, I haven’t taken this force of nature for granted. Once upon a time, the sound of the waves would lull me to sleep. Now, not so much.

But being with Patch on a deserted beach , breathing in the fresh coastal air is a wonderful thing.

Feed me now!

What are your family’s top 3 favourite meals?

Breakfasts are still my fave meal WP. Just love to fuel up first thing!

I’ve written about these in depth in previous DP’s, so will just say the top 3 remain the same ( in no particular order) Middle Eastern, South Indian ( pongal, especially)  and Full veggie English.

Pongal

Random favourite yummies include green salads ( watercress, baby spinach, rocket + balsamic) hash browns, mushroom rissotto, pumpkin seeds, palak paneer, mushy peas, corriander, soda bread, dates, avocado, grapes dal, butter beans, humous-I could go on, but I’ll spare you that

Oh. Turkish Coffee. Love it!!

My man! The ultimate Creative

If you could meet a historical figure, who would it be and why?

His temperamental streak stayed with him from childhood, incredibly complex and totally driven. This demanding forceful speaker with strong opinions was also a devoted friend.

The Irish poet, dramatist, writer and literary critic W.B Yates ( 1865~1939) said –

No man I have ever known was so well loved”

William Morris (1834~1896) is my main man from history.

This visionary leader, designer, prolific writer, poet, and environmental and architectural conservationists was also committed revolutionary socialist. And it was his socialist views that were often debated at the time. But this charismatic man, passionate about beauty, craftsmanship, and social justice, won the day.

He was a principled idealist with a keen sense of justice and fairness.

And he strove to make the world a more beautiful and equitable place.

How I would have loved to be around his  immense creative energy.

I trust his

Do you trust your instincts?

Patch takes the lead when we leave the house. He’ll either stop at the car or out onto the street and go left or right.

We live in dog-walking nivarna and can go for weeks, not taking exactly the same route. It’s fascinating seeing the way and at what pace he wants to go.

Later, I’ll take a photo in his new winter coat, but for now a fave pic

Cosy boy

I love this website. A fascinating read.

Late Spring in England

What’s your favorite month of the year? Why?

Oh WP, this DP is so very easy to answer today. May in England, what’s not to love?

The new energy is sublime, with days longer now and warmth in the sun. The birds are as busy as ever with the arrival of swallows and swifts from Africa. If you are super-lucky you’ll get to hear a cuckoo.

Bluebells and tulips bring more depth of colour to the late Spring. With wild animals coming out of hibernation, too, the land feels alive. Fresh.

As a young child, Lily ( some of you may remember I’ve written about this amazing lady more than once) would take me to something called The Tulip Festival at Cannon Hill Park, in our side of the city on Birmingham. ( Just across the road from Pebble Mill, TV studios.

It ran from 1960 to the late ’70’s and we have Sir Frank Price to thank for it. A Labour politician and Lord Mayor of Birmingham thought it would brighten up the city after what were in those days quite harsh winters.

If overseas visitors were thinking of visiting England, I would suggest May is the month to do it.
