The Games People Play

What’s your favorite game (card, board, video, etc.)? Why?

A few days back, Daily Prompt asked us what activities we did that made us lose track of time.

I mentioned playing and enjoying Redecor, Zen Word and Woodle Screw on my tablet. Well, that statement was the kiss of death as I’ve already stepped back from two of them.

Redecor, as the name suggests in an interior design game. I’ve played it for years and mostly pay a little each month for enhancements. But enough already! The repeated graphics are becoming tiresome, and I’m properly bored of ‘ beige’ winning every round. Use any form of self-expression and you tank. Simple as.

Woodle Screw is a logic nuts and bolts game, totally addictive, and that’s not healthy.

I shall still play one round/ circuit of Zen Word each day, ’cause that’s why we’re all here, isn’t it?  For the words. The game lasts about 30 minutes, giving my grey matter a bit of a workout.

And that’s about it, really, for today.

Yesteryear, I was taught to handle a pack of cards by Lily and Arthur, my guardians, at that time. I have fond memories of playing Gin Rummy at their kitchen table. Or Patience by myself. Happy days.

You can take the girl out of India….

What foods would you like to make?

I would like to perfect a South Indian breakfast. Having written about favourite foods before, I won’t elaborate. Simply to say it’s divine. Maybe I should learn to master a pressure cooker?

For the majority of the years I lived and worked in India there was a cook in the house. How lucky was I to have my breakfast presented each morning, in such a manner. A daily feast. Amazing!

Often I would drop into the kitchen to see what was going on. It was always such a hive of activity. Pans rattling, wonderful aromas, huge piles of palak ( spinach) and bunches of fresh corriander…local chit chat and a Tamil film score in the background….. wow

50th Subscriber. Thank you!

I re-engaged with WordPress on February 1st this year. Steadily I  have posted  a little each day.

Today, 50 of you gorgeous peeps have

subscribed. Special thanks as always to June, from Fancying France, for being the first.

In truth it could have been lots more, but I got the feeling 20+ accounts added in one swoop and often were probably Bots and not a whole swathe of peeps who thought what I had to say was the best! So I got rid. WordPress has since taken away my capacity to bin subscribers, I think.

So that’s all I want to say, really. I love the folk I have subscribed to.What an interesting crew you are. Eric Foltin, Serial Killer Chic? Omg, it’s going to take a while for that chuckle to disappitate.

Occasionally, with your permission, I’d like to write about you guys. How I perceive the lives you live and what you’ve got to say. I will ask permission beforehand. But what an amazing mix you are.  Absolutely Fabulous!

In the meantime, please add a few words in the comment box if something stirs your soul.

Thanks. Laters x

Yes, I am aware there are plenty of you guys out there with hundreds if not thousands of subscribers, and you may have been posting since time began, but in the words of LJ ‘ I am me and you are you’.  Best wishes

Patch, my muse

Dogs or cats?
Dogs, but I love cats too

Animals are my thing. I just love them!

Dogs are an absolute passion, I share a life with my Canine companion, and I’d be lost without him.

But it’s cats that really make me smile; their aloofness, the patience they have to sit facing a stone wall for as long as it takes to spot a field mouse. Their way of using that last ray of sunshine  to nap in. Their agility and poise. They way they prowl through my neighbourhood and stop outside just long enough for Patch to pick up their scent and react. I’m sure they do that on purpose. Their curiosity. Their stillness.

Letting off steam

Here goes..

When I began blogging again in February  2025 using Boomer in my handle. ( ‘ Handle’ do people even use that expression anymore?  lol) I knew from the off I was very aware it would limit an audience. Transparency and authenticity are important to me, so I decided to go for it.

Some ladies of my age came forward. Engaged with me and subscribed. I sincerely thank you as it gave me the conviction to continue with my thoughts, to unpack a life and put some things to rest.

Then I got sidelined by the Daily Prompt, which wasn’t such a bad thing. It did what it said on the tin. It gave me a direction, each day I was given stuff to think and write about. Thank you, DP. I will never diss you. You got me up and running.

I appear to have digressed somewhat. The rant……..

What I am struggling with is how the younger generations are spewing out content day after day in online articles. It seems to be constant now how Boomers should live their lives. What we should and shouldn’t wear, which items in our homes they dislike ( because they are old fashioned, duh) even the language and phrases we use. The audacity to chat about times gone by.

What I’d like to say is ‘ Hey pal, you may or not have a long stretch of future ahead, but we do have a rich past to look back on. You’d be so lucky’. You guys didn’t invent festivals. Have you never heard of Woodstock, Isle of Wight, Knebworth, Blackbushe?

We have lived through decades of changing fashions; our clothes, make up, music it was ongoing and constantly changing. It was loud, it was exciting, city nightlife was vibrant.

I do not understand what I choose to  have in my home, what I wear, and what language I choose to use is open for dissection and ridicule by someone whom has yet a life to live, a person of little experience in the world.

An enlightened youngster was heard to say recently,’ I am me’. It is a pleasure to know you, LJ. Somewhere get it.Some don’t.

What really makes me cross is the thought of them getting paid for their hollow opinions. For what amounts to being rude, don’t you think?

This has been a long post, but if you have read thus far, I thank you. Do say something in the comment box; whatever age you are and how you feel about the intergenerational differences that cause friction.

Which activities make you lose track of time?

This is my 166th day streak with this new blog and enjoying the Daily Prompt.

Yes, I had been warned by fellow bloggers that the topics do get repeated, but I didn’t expect it to be this fast!

Please tell me, haven’t we been asked to tell how we lose ourselves to time, in the recent past? Do tell.

Today’s pic has nothing to do with the written words here..but I like it!

Anyways, at the risk of repeating myself, I will say playing games on my tablet like Redecor, Zen Word, and Woodle Screw keep me very quiet for a very long time. I do have a life, honest …

The Whisper and the Roar

What bothers you and why?

‘ Bother’ in the English language can be used in several ways. Today, I’ll use it as a verb. A lightweight word. Being bothered by a mosquito or someone talking loudly on their device in a store or out in the street. Just a whisper of a nuisance.

But now I’m going to change the tempo somewhat, going from 0 to 60 in 4 seconds and write about outrage.

What outrages me and why? How long have you got?  There are many things. If you’ve read any of my posts in the past, you may have learnt how most of the world’s leaders outrage me.

It’s Inequality that makes my blood boil. Makes me roar.

In August 2005 Huricanne Katrina hit New Orleans with winds up to 150 miles an hour. The carnage was immense.

At the time, George W. Bush, the President of the Untied States, was into a twenty-nine day holiday on his ranch in Texas. On his way back to Washington on Air Force One, he directed the pilot to fly over the devastation. So he could see. He had chosen not to visit.

The public perception of Bush and the  administration was highly critical, and his political career never really recovered. He was seen as insensitive and neglectful of minorities and the less fortunate. A moral delay. Leadership without empathy.

Approximately 1392 died, half of those aged over 74. Over a million displaced.

Most of those who died were from low income areas. 67% being African Americans.

The flooded streets revealed submerged architecture of poor quality. 40% of the victims had drowned.

There is a lot more to be said about Huricanne Katrina and why inequality made the suffering so much worse, much more prolonged..

But this is simply a blog post about one major incident when inequality was the name of the game.. Inexcusable.

Are you certain?

List 10 things you know to be absolutely certain.

It’s impossible to begin the list without the statesman Benjamin Franklin being at the top.Taken from a letter he wrote in 1789 stating,’ In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes’. His quote has stood the test of time, but I  am sure it had crossed the minds of others before him, though.

I can assure you that the passing of a companion animal is absolutely heartbreaking.

Brazil is the most biodiverse country in the world, with more species of plants, animals, mammals, and fresh water fish than anywhere else on the planet.

Sad that it is, I am also certain I will never get to see Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers in concert, ever again.

Night follows day.

Time and tide wait for no man.                     Geoffrey Chaucer ( ?- 1400)

By 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than fish.

‘ Life is a succession of lessons which need to be lived to be understood’            Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)

The majority of our world leaders are unhinged and without a moral compass.

Adventure v Security

With time on my hands, I thought I’d have a sneaky look at the prompt for tomorrow.

They are asking about adventure v security.

I love reading  what you guys have to say. We’re all so different. Good job, really .. How tiresome it would be if we all felt and experienced the same life?

Off the block, I’m thinking I’ve had enough adventure to last me a lifetime, and this very moment in time, security is sacred.

I may leave it at that. Who knows what tomorrow may bring?

I so welcome you guys dropping in and allowing us to have a chat, leaving your thoughts and comments.
