In England I’ll mostly drink decaffeinated tea and coffee( believing it is better for me and won’t disturb my sleep).
One of the best drinks in the world has to be Turkish Coffee ( and definitely a sleep disturber). I would alarm work mates overseas by drinking big cups of it, whilst theirs were tiny. To be fair it did make me a tad jittery. But so lovely!
Mint Tea is another drink I adore. The Daily Prompt was probably asking for one, I have three.
And last but not least Masala Chai. Heavenly.
Strangely I don’t add anything sweet to my drinks here at home, but those favourites of mine are absolutely laden with sugar 😂
5148 miles separate me from two ladies who are very special in my life.
One a devout Catholic from Bangalore, the other a devout Muslim from Jordan. When I spent years in their company I’d find myself as the would-be Buddhist, nestled between them.
I returned to the UK from Southern India in October 2005 and have only seen these wonderful souls once since then, but our connection is strong.
These ladies have a faith I admire, respect and a little envious of really, as it makes them incredibly strong and unconditionally kind.
Tell us about your favorite pair of shoes, and where they’ve taken you.
Feb 2026. Below is the reply to the DP I wrote a year ago. Not long after, I had begun blogging again. I’m tempted to rewrite the whole thing. But no. I’ll leave it be.
Feb 2025. Currently I spend most of my time in wellies. It’s February, in England and I walk my dog a lot in the muddiest of areas. My choice, I know.
But asking a female about favourite footwear? With any luck, we’ve all had quite a few pairs that have made us happy. Yes, I can see I’ve generalised there, and yes there are going to be lots of ladies that have had the one special pair, and I look forward to reading about them.
I have lived long enough to enjoy so many different fashions that have come and gone, and it really is difficult to decide. There were my biker boots, I loved those, took me to lots of concerts to see bands…
Cowboy boots, desert boots, moccasin boots, Converse, Birkies, platforms, killer heels, bejewelled sandals, clogs, the list goes on.
I don’t buy leather anymore, but I did once upon a time have the most beautiful chestnut coloured sandals that encased my foot. It’s impossible to describe, really but memorable. They took me to Saudi Arabia- and thinking about that, I imagine I gave up my beloved biker boots at that same time. Wouldn’t be needing those in the desert.
This question stopped me in my tracks for a moment.
As I stared at the empty page wondering where to begin, it became clear. There, the very ability to look at the space, waiting for me to collect my thoughts. Sight
One of the best gifts I was given at birth was the ability to see.The best gift I can give someone else is to be on the NHS national data base for all organ donations.
George Washington, born 22 February 1732 and first president of the United States had the right idea. ‘ We must consult our means rather than our wishes.’
Are you patriotic? What does being patriotic mean to you?
Once upon time patriotism must have been wonderfully positive and emotive. Today, in my minds eye I see the emotion, but it being a negative. That it now smacks of extremesism and not in a good way?
I ike being English, a Brit. Our young royals are doing a sterling job, all things considered. I’ve never considered myself a royalist, far from it, but Dianna Princess of Wales was something else. A very special lady. It was tragic she lost her life just as she was gaining control of it.
The world has become a terrifying place ( yes, I understand we are now more able to see what’s going on everywhere, more than ever before)..It feels uneasy…but I digress. Am I a patriot? Not per se, it’s more to do with gratitude. I can think of many places worldwide I wouldn’t have liked/survived being born and growing up in. So, England I thank you and I’m happy to be here.
This morning on LBC Radio they spoke about Trump and his latest moves, keeping Europe out of discussions regarding Ukraine and from that moment on I began to have feelings of Patriotism for Europe. I voted to remain during Brexit and we lost that. Is that flame now going to be rekindled? I hope so.
I think today’s lesson was two fold…The Prompt; the lesson in writing and Lesson Two being the reminder that I’m an idiot and I’m sharing that fact with you. More than an idiot, really. Absolute irresponsible, just about sums it up.
What did I do?
If I had been caught, maybe had a car accident because of it, I could have been fined £5000, an appearance in court and my insurance company very unhappy with me. Worse still someone could have got hurt and more.
Getting ready to come back from the park my dog’s raincoat was wet and muddy, so I took it off so he could get warm. I got in the front and drove the few miles home.
Only when I got here did I realise I hadn’t secured his harness. He’d been unrestrained. If I’d had an accident and stopped suddenly he could have been hurt. If he had distracted me and I’d collided with another vehicle…we’ll, I don’t want to think about that.
What I will think about is being more careful in future. He will be secured at all times.
If there was a biography about you, what would the title be?
To see a biography about me on a book shop shelf would be quite something. It would mean I had realised my final ambition/dream and was being recognised for it. ‘ Yikes!’ we might say in England, when something extraordinary happens.
If you had the power to change one law, what would it be and why?
It has been so interesting to read all the contributions to today’s WordPress blog prompt. The opinions have been so wide. Some waving the question goodbye as they have found it simply too complicated to even get their thoughts around. Others have suggested their blogs are their happy places and such this particular topic is not for them. I respect each and every one of you for your views.
The simple thought of the death penalty is an emotive one. Miscarriages of justice I am sure have kept many souls awake at night. It is reported one in 10 people on Death Row are innocent. Luckily for some there are many organisations worldwide ready to campaign for those deemed innocent.
But I ask you to consider this one case. Ian Watkins the front man of a Welsh rock band called The Lost Prophets, given a twenty nine year sentence ( plus 6 years on license and 10 months added for being in possession of a mobile phone in person). He is currently serving the time in HM Wakefield. His crime? Multiple sex offences, including sexual assault of young children and infants.Plus being in possession of extreme child and animal pornography.
It was recorded in 2013 that only fifty eight countries retain the death penalty. The UK gov turning their back on it in 1965.
The overall annual expenditure for all prisons in the UK is Four billion, and some.
In 2022/23 the cost of keeping one inmate amounted to £51,724 a year.
In the case of Ian Watkins, surely that money could be better spent in society?
