What a man….

Do you have any collections? I embrace minimalism

William Morris (1834-1896) designer, poet, craftsman, radical socialist, environmental activist. The first eco warrior of design, without a doubt!

He once said ‘ Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful ‘.

Another interesting take, said by Isabel Allende-1942- ‘ You spend the first part of your life collecting things and the second half getting rid of them’………A bit of a generalisation, but you get the drift.

Personally I’m not that comfortable being possessed by possessions.

Wildflowers, by Gaby Compres

Daily Prompt….Have you ever broken a bone?

Let’s be wildflowers, let our souls be scattered by the wind.

Let us grow wild and free, tall and brave, in the places that we dream, in the places where our longings are filled.

Let us grow through the cracks of brokenness, and we will make everything beautiful.

My Tamil pups

What sacrifices have you made in life?

I sometimes find the word ‘ sacrifice’ smacks of  martyrdom in today’s world….and I’m not sure what to replace it with….forfeit? forego?

‘ Gave up’. Maybe that works a bit better? It’s still not perfect!

Once upon a time I had a well paid job overseas, a comfortable lifestyle and savings….and then I didn’t, because a Street Dog came into my life and changed everything. My Tony and the foster puppy Joe (who stayed forever) became my focus. My world.

It cost me everything, but I wouldn’t change a thing. That’s not totally true. I do not regret for one second bringing them back to the UK…but I wish I had done things differently.

In the end the young pup stayed by my side for 15 years, with unconditional love and a continuity in my life I knew neither before or since.

I loved those boys……and I miss them.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers β€οΈ

What was the last live performance you saw?

It certainly wasn’t the last live performance I saw and what was escapes me completely. But going to see Tom Petty and his band play at Wembley in London two nights in a row, March 1992 for the Great Wide Open Tour was simply the best thing ever. Exceptionally vivid and precious memories made there. RIP Tom πŸ’œ

Have you ever been camping?

Hey WordPress thank you for another Daily Prompt which I can answer quickly and without much thought.Yes, I went camping once, with the girl guides ( patrol leader of the Robins, I’ll have you know) when I was about 11. Not since then. Not my jam.

…..bit under the weather at the moment. Hope to be back soon, with a fuller page xxxx

Earth, Wind and Fire

What makes you nervous?

Nervousness is triggered by our body’s response to stress. The threats can be real or imagined and shows just how powerful the nervous system is. We want and need it to work, but just sometimes we become overwhelmed and that’s when fight or flight kick-in.

What makes me nervous is being out in the car when it’s really very windy. I vividly imagine a tree falling on my car, at any moment, which doesn’t usually end well. In the UK 5-6 people per year die this way. However, the HSE, Health and Safety Executive categorise this risk as ‘ broadly acceptable’. 😳 I kid you not.

Personally all adverse weather conditions tend to freak me out, somewhat. It rapidly reminds me how insignificant we are, up against the elements. They are the forces to be reckoned with as the Earth fights back and shows us exactly who is boss.

In England we are relatively sheltered from the worst of it. Snow falling for a few days and the whole country comes to a standstill. Laughable to those from more eastern zones.

But there is no humour to be found in Tsunami’s, volcanic eruptions, wildfires, landslides, avalanches, whirlwinds, tornadoes, flooding and droughts, causing destruction and famine.

Extreme weather conditions make me very nervous indeed!
