A moment in time

It has become a thing for my dog to wake me  extra early. I get up, make coffee, turn on LBC and look to see said dog very comfortably in a deep sleep.

I come back upstairs with my drink and lay down again for a short while. It’s warmer today, the relief of spring arriving is immeasurable.

And then it started..The robin outside my bedroom window with his morning song. A melody so fine it reaches my soul. The mystery, the pure innocence. What is in his heart he should sing like that? Who else is listening to his story? Is it a story or a song? Both.

And then it stopped. What a beautiful moment to start my day. Thank you

Busy doing nothing

What is one question you hate to be asked? Explain.

Hate is a strong word and too strong for this situation…but, I dislike people I do not know and don’t know me asking what my plans are for the weekend. The simple answer usually would be ‘ not much’..And that is exactly how I like it.

Doing nothing can be misinterpreted in all manner of ways and I really can’t be bothered with all the patter ‘ I’ve had a busy, working, transient life and now is my time, to do as I please’.

My answer to this prompt sounds trite written down here, doesn’t it? But it’s the look you may receive, the pity. ‘oh poor thing has nothing to do and no one to do it with’. 😂 Don’t worry yourself, I’ve got plenty to do, thanks.

‘ Failure is success in progress’ said Einstein

How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success?

Faliure and success ….what loaded words and concepts.

For Daily Prompts I generally put my thoughts straight onto the page, unlike Creative Writing which improves with some extra effort. Today I will write what’s jumbled in my head first off and then come back throughout the day to consider and probably add to and take away, bits n bobs.

The words failure and success can have emotional meaning beyond their literal definitions. Think about how advertising companies use persuasive writing to manipulate potential customers/clients.

How does one define success, exactly? And which success are we refering to? Constant, one time, sometime, occasional all time?Fifty shades of success, I suggest. Failure? Do we always see it as absolute and not acknowledge the success which may have come beforehand?

Imagine this…A business is established, the owners work hard and it becomes a success. Years later it fails because the business’s customers don’t or can’t pay their invoices. Looking back do you view/judge that business as the success it grew to be or the failure it became?

In 2010 students in Finland founded Failure Day, to be celebrated on October 13th each year. To encourage their friends to see it as steps to success. Much as Albert Einstein ( 1879-1955) said.

to be continued………………………… I wanted to come back to this today.. ..life got in the way xxxx

Manners maketh man, not threads!

Did a cheap berating make the president of the United States feel like a big man, do you think? Does he feel the need to constantly over power people? Or is he simply rude? Both, probably.

President Zelensky may have thought for a moment or two about wearing a suit to meet Trump, or more likely a split second? He was walking into the lions den anyway. Better to arm himself with the familiarity of his own uniform and not that of the other man. Or the other men, as it turned out.

President Zelensky of Ukraine held his own against a barage of abuse, and came out of the ordeal the winner.

Has Trump got any true colours left to show?

…and I’m very happy and lucky to have those objects!

What are three objects you couldn’t live without?

Not objects per se, but for auditing purposes I couldn’t live without oxygen, water and food.

My dog, a faithful companion is not an object either and I’d rather not live without him.

The roof over my head, my own front door, I would not like to be without.

Three objects, then?

My reading/driving glasses, my car and internet access/device.

Out n about

I have so enjoyed my daily prompt, but I need to gather myself and get back to business.

Can we start with today? Saturday March 1st. Tbh, I was believing it was Sunday until someone on LBC Radio mentioned it. Oh dear.

I hadn’t expected what unfolded to be so pleasant. Taking the dog out is always pleasurable, whatever the weather. It’s a good job I have him, really, as I’m not sure I’d go out walking unaccompanied at all. I vary our walks as His Nibs clearly gets bored going to same old and without fail let’s me know by simply sitting down and refusing to move. Fair enough. He’s got a point. To see him interested and motivated is like being with a different dog. He trots, canters in equal measure. A joy to behold.

We had an easy 5 mile drive to a country park.  ‘ Heaving’ we would say colloquially. It was noon. Parents with their young having a stroll before lunch. Scooters powered by tiny legs. Large helmets wobbling on little heads  Masses of dogs living their best lives, happy and secure  with their people. The kids were excited, the animals busy and gown ups chilled. A perfect picture. The atmosphere reflected that too.

An elderly couple in companionable silence passed us. They held hands and my heart warmed.

The seating at the outside cafe was full. Some leant against a wall or sat down at the waters edge. Most were quite merrily vocal. I wondered if those seated underneath the sheltered area were as warm and as comfortable as those completely outside.

It was only 11 degrees but there was no breeze and warmth in the sun. The reservoir was a hive of activity. Paddle boarders were packing up. We missed viewing their fun. Perhaps the swans were relieved they were going away from their domain? The ducks, many in pairs now heading this way and that. Others seemingly without purpose.

Strangely there was an absence of squirrels. My loss, but HN kicks off and causes a scene, so just as well really.

I suddenly tired .We’d been awake since before 5am,but that was cool. I had turned the light off before 9pm, it’s only fair I get up and tend to my constant companion’s needs. I don’t know which came first, the early nights or the early mornings. Whichever, they have panned out and this is what we do for now.

The clocks will change soon and the powers that be will tell us that the day has moved one hour ahead. Madness? Yes. But that is how the world is operating right now. In a constant state of madness.

Island in the sun

Why do the British talk about the weather so much? We are often mocked for it…But the fact is we are Islanders and the changeable conditions come to us from all directions and consequentially have an impact on our lives. More so than land locked countries where the elements are a tad more predictable.

Fishing and farming depend on having some clue how the day is going to pan out, for instance. Even the folk down your street might discuss if it’s worth putting the washing out. It’s a subject not to be ridiculed as it allows folk to chat and prepare for upcoming storms or dry periods, say. It is also a very important for social interaction as the subject can spark a conversation between people who may otherwise not get the chance in life to. It’s not such a bad thing as it is often portrayed.

There are things I need to do now…..but later I’d like to tell you about my latest dog walk. Rock n roll 😅

Let’s dump Trump?

Not only was Trump an absolute bully yesterday he has now said he was ‘offended’ President Zelensky did not wear a suit. Really? If this courageous man had worn a suit he would have been ridiculed anyway, as it was sure not to be designer threads. Stand proud President Zelensky, it spoke volumes you present yourself as you are. ( Looking back through my blog I can see I’ve mentioned this issue before. Clearly made me cross)
