Coexistence

What’s a quote that perfectly describes your outlook on life?

If a Pagan meets a Buddhist, you may begin to get where I’m coming from.

However, the quote I have for you today is straight from the Bible.

Do to others as you would have them do unto you’.

The most beautiful thing about this is that you will find a version of this quote in every holy book and wise words from ancient philosophers.

Buddhism: “Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful.” — Udanavarga 5:18

Hinduism: “This is the sum of duty: do naught onto others which would cause you pain if done to you.” — Mahabharata 5:1517

Confucianism: “Do not do to others what you do not want them to do to you.” — Analects 15:23

Taoism: “Regard your neighbour’s gain as your own gain, and your neighbour’s loss as your own loss.” — T’ai Shang Kan Ying P’ien

Islam: “None of you [truly] believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself.” — Number 13 of Imam Al-Nawawi’s Forty Hadiths

Judaism: “What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbour. This is the whole Torah; the rest is the commentary; go and learn it.” — Talmud, Shabbat 31a

Ancient Greece: “Do not do to others what angers you if done to you by others.” — Isocrates
