WP, we have chatted about this before. I remember telling you how I aspire to be vegan, but Halloumi and Feta have the upper hand. I also told you about loving Tamil and Middle Eastern breakfasts. So, what else?
Coriander has to be my favourite herb, and pumpkin seeds are my current snack of choice. I love piadina to eat with Zatar, oil, and salt, and Buddha bowls make me happy.
I had a feeling this post would just end up as a list, and I’m finding it tricky to be creative about it this morning. So, with my first coffee of the day drunk, it’s time to start the day. Let’s see if a long walk with my best buddy will stir some thoughts.
Walking, yes, WP. Every day, come rain or shine, we’re out there braving the elements.
It’s a good job I do have my canine buddy, as I doubt I’d be out three times a day on my own. Despite being at one with nature.
Once upon a time, I’d be pounding the streets of London with my perfect shopping pal. Oh yes, we did some walking back then. But those days are over.. Well, let’s never say never.
Seriously, WP! Do you not take any notice of anything I ever write about? I show up every day and do the DP, and you ask this.
Patch, my loyal companion is head of the household. For arguments sake, I just go along with what Himself wants to do next.
Luckily, after his first morning walk and a hearty breakfast, he likes a good nap, leaving me to my own devices for a couple of hours. Hence, I get to put pen to paper and check out what my fellow bloggers are up to.
Patrol Leader of The Robins at Girl Guides in Birmingham, moons ago. I told you before, I loved it until they modernised the uniform and then everything changed. I felt I could not perform wearing such an underwhelming outfit of a Friday night. So that was that.
As for the rest of my life, I shall go along with what many of the guys are saying here, and that is I believe I have led by example in some roles, and I enjoyed that. Showing someone the ropes was fun.
Patch what else could my favourite word be? Himself, His Nibs, Babe, Patches, Dude, Mate, Sweetness, Sweets, Sweetheart…..
The reply to today’s DP has been short and…sweet. I’m thinking maybe a long walk with my trusted companion will give me inspiration to write more today? I hope so. Laters my Lovelies x
Oh, Dearest WP, if only you had asked me this question many many moons ago. Sigh!
Late afternoons spent ‘ getting ready’. The music plays, the clothes sometimes agonised over and the sitting at the dressing table make-up paraphernalia all laid out.
Downstairs for dinner with the family and then ‘excused’ from the table and participating in the washing up, and it would be ‘ off into the night closing the door behind me’. Those words were written by Caitlin Moran, in a novel or article, I can’t remember which, but they resonated. I could feel, hear, and see those nights with such clarity, ‘ off into the night’, cosy in my afghan coat.
Birmingham city night life was so vibrant then. Pubs and clubs spilling out onto the street. The whiff of patchouli or weed. Bands aplenty to see in multiple venues. Sometimes, a short queue here and there… The chatter, laughter, exuberance.
The list just kept on growing. An ideal week, you ask. WP come on! There is plenty to do and plenty to see… but do you know what?
I’d settle for a guaranteed week of no incidents or accidents, no drama, no shocks, or nasty surprises….plus good health for all. Wouldn’t that be something?
Name the professional athletes you respect the most and why
Ellie Simmonds gets my vote. In Bejing in the 2008 summer paralympics, at just thirteen years of age, she won two gold medals, then went on to win three more gold,a silver, and two bronze ( Paralympic medals)
Born with Achondroplasia- small stature in 1994 and adopted at three months by a West Midlands couple who cherished their new daughter and encouraged her desire and ability to swim.
Today Ellie is named Aqua Owl by the Girl Guides, and she is an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust, WaterAid (a magnificent charity), and The Scouts Association.
Since retiring a healthy career in TV has followed, she has made documentaries and taken part in fun shows.
A true star in and out of the water, this lady has my respect. Totally.
It’s possible once upon a time if I had heard the word poetry, I’d be ambivalent or worse if the idea of a dusty ol’ Shakespeare sprang to mind. But if Edward Lear, Spike Milligan or Roald Dahl were mentioned I’d sit up..So maybe I’d always felt something as a younger soul?
The most beautiful Lesuire by W.H. Davies has been on my radar for a very long time, and Emily Dickinson and Sara Teasdale, amongst others certainly stir me.
In the bleak mid winter ( once titled A Christmas Carol) by Christina Rossetti began life as a poem…and then became a Christmas carol. I love this, the words, the music. My favourite to hear at that time of the year. ( In fact, I’ll let you into a secret, I find myself humming this tune all year found) So haunting.
Christine’s brother Dante Gabriel and the Pre Raphelites have fascinated me for decades along with William Morris, my hero. But I digress.
DP asked what we do to relax…I thumb through endless poetry books and search sites to feed my appetite for words from a time gone by for poems that resonate. Bliss.
If you had to give up one word that you use regularly, what would it be?
We’re bloggers WP, and you want us to give up a word? I’ve been thinking this over, and I cannot think of a thing. Arhh, there you go, you can have thing… but only for today..
