This jug, dated 1700BC, was unearthed in 2003 in an archeologically dig on the Turkish-Syrian border, but the smiley face was not revealed until this Hittite piece was restored in 2017. Word is it would have been used for drinking sherbet, a sweet drink….I wonder how they determined that?

Amazing isn’t it. There is also a letter with a smiley face at the end. I must find it again.☺️

Nice to have your acquaintence.. Well…I’m a born raised in Istanbul Turkiye octogenarian…I’ve seen quite a few of these in the museums back there. Now, living in the Western part of this globe, I feel privileged for having studied the history, anthropology and all the fine arts of that culture. BTW, the drink most likely would have been KIMIZ (as early as 12-13th cent.) a fermented sweetish drink made of mare’s milk. Used by nomadic Turkic, Uygur and many other tribes. Dee Tezelli, on Amazon Books. Cheers.
