Which languages do you speak and how did that impact your life?
The multilingual amongst us will get to shine the brightest today..and so you should! The ability to converse in other languages is some superpower in my eyes.
When English is your mother tongue, there is less of an incentive to learn another. Lazy of us, I think.
There was a time I was familiar with hearing Arabic and Tamil on a daily basis, and if I had stayed in that place, I might be holding my own. As it is the only practice I get now with Tamil is with the lad at the petrol station who appears remarkably impressed I can say hello, ask him if he’s had his breakfast then thank him and say goodbye. Bless him.
( He can speak several languages and has a degree in engineering. He’s humble and kind)
I think sometimes that I wish I had stayed overseas…

How do you know Tamil?

I lived in Chennai for some time. My co-workers and friends were keen to help me learn their language. But I left there 20 years ago. I miss it.

Wow. Tamil is tongue twisting and you attempted 😆. If you visit it now you won’t recognize.

Yes, you are right, I don’t think I’d recognise the villages down the East Coast Road…it’s a nice language Tamil, though.🇮🇳

It is. Even my brother picked up the language when he was studying there.

I learned French and German when I was a child, but I only remember words (mostly curse words). I learned some Hebrew and could almost converse, but now I’m trying Spanish, which is a lot easier. I think learning a language in elementary school should be mandatory in America and mandatory for every year we’re in school.

I love language and languages. I believe learning or speaking another language leads to a greater understanding of other people and cultures. You don’t necessarily need to be fluent. Your lovely interaction with the lad at the petrol station is a case in point. I imagine you made his day a little brighter x

I thought of you when I read the Daily Prompt..having been a French teacher, June. The lad is so funny, so patient when I try and the words. xxxx
